Circumstances of Injury:

While carrying out a combat mission, Serhii and his comrades were withdrawing from their positions when they came under an unexpected airstrike and artillery barrage. The events unfolded in an instant: a blast wave threw Serhii off his feet, resulting in a severe injury—a fractured femur.

The trauma was severe, causing intense pain and complete immobility. The evacuation conditions were extremely perilous, but thanks to the coordinated actions of his comrades, Serhii was safely transported to medics who provided emergency care.

Diagnosis:

• Blast trauma.
• Closed fracture of the distal third of the right femur with displacement.

This diagnosis highlights a significant injury caused by the blast wave, resulting in a closed fracture of the femur in its lower (distal) third. The displacement of bone fragments complicates the natural healing process and necessitates surgical intervention for proper fixation.

1. Closed Reduction:

• A procedure to realign the bone fragments into their correct anatomical position without open surgical access.
• Performed under radiographic or other imaging guidance to ensure precision.

2. Locking Intramedullary Osteosynthesis (IMOS):

• Stabilization of the fracture using a metal rod inserted into the medullary canal of the femur.
• Locking screws securely anchor the rod, ensuring stability and proper alignment during the healing process.
