Campaign details
Circumstances of Injury:
On May 16, 2024, near the village of Solovyova in the Donetsk region, Ivan was stationed on the front line when mortar fire began at 5:00 a.m. Despite heavy shelling, Ivan held his position for an hour until a shell fragment caused severe injuries to his left arm.
His comrades applied a tourniquet and bandage to stop the bleeding, but Ivan had to make his way to the evacuation point on his own. His arm was barely attached, held together by a few muscles, and he feared it could not be saved.
Diagnosis:
Gunshot and shrapnel wounds to the forearms:
- Left forearm: Severe injury caused by shrapnel or a bullet, resulting in a partial traumatic amputation of the left upper limb at the upper third of the forearm.
- Right forearm (lower third): Gunshot and shrapnel injury affecting the bones, soft tissues, blood vessels, or nerves, impairing the functionality of the limb.
Clinical Plan:
Metal Osteosynthesis (MOS) of the Radius and Ulna with Bone Grafting Using Allotransplantation:
- Metal Osteosynthesis (MOS):
- Surgical fixation of bone fragments using metal plates, screws, or other stabilizing devices.
- Ensures proper anatomical alignment and stable fixation of the radius and ulna for optimal healing.
- Bone Grafting with Allotransplantation:
- Replacement of missing bone tissue with a donor bone graft (allotransplant).
- Helps restore the structural integrity and volume of the injured bone.
- Supports the natural healing process when the patient’s own bone tissue is insufficient.
