Circumstances of the Injury:

On March 26, 2023, while executing a combat mission as part of a special operations unit, Yurii sustained a severe mine-blast injury. During an engagement with the enemy and under heavy artillery fire, a fragment struck his left knee joint, causing significant damage and a traumatic injury to the joint.

Diagnosis:

• Post-traumatic injury to the body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus of the left knee joint.
• Synovitis.
• Chronic pain syndrome.
• Severe impairment of weight-bearing and walking function.

Details of the injury:

1. Medial meniscus damage:
   • The medial meniscus, crucial for shock absorption and joint stability, is injured at the body and posterior horn, resulting in pain and limited mobility.
2. Synovitis:
   • Inflammation of the synovial membrane, leading to fluid accumulation, swelling, and restricted movement in the joint.
3. Chronic pain syndrome:
   • Persistent pain that hinders movement and significantly impacts quality of life.
4. Impaired weight-bearing and walking function:
   • The inability to fully bear weight on the injured leg due to pain and joint instability.

Clinical Plan:

Diagnostic arthroscopy and partial resection of the body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus of the left knee joint.

1. Diagnostic arthroscopy:
   • A minimally invasive procedure where an arthroscope (a small camera) is inserted through small incisions to examine the joint structures.
   • Allows for a detailed assessment of the medial meniscus damage and other joint components.
2. Partial resection of the medial meniscus:
   • Removal of only the damaged sections of the body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus.
   • Preserves as much of the meniscus as possible to maintain its shock-absorbing function and protect the joint.
