Circumstances of the injury

Ivan sustained his injury while performing a combat mission in the Donetsk region. His fellow soldiers provided first aid and helped him reach the evacuation point, after which he was transferred to a medical facility for further treatment.

Medical diagnosis

Left-sided gonarthrosis (stage II), meniscus and cartilage damage in the knee joint, chronic inflammation (synovitis), as well as accompanying back issues.

What this means in simple terms:

• the knee joint is gradually deteriorating;
• the cartilage responsible for smooth movement is damaged;
• there is ongoing inflammation inside the joint;
• pain, swelling, and restricted movement occur;
• walking becomes increasingly difficult.

Overall, this is a chronic condition that will continue to worsen without treatment, further limiting mobility.

Clinical solution

Corrective osteotomy of the left tibia — a surgery that helps redistribute the load on the joint and slow down its further deterioration.

What this approach means:

• surgeons adjust the position of the bone to relieve pressure on the damaged part of the knee;
• this helps reduce pain;
• improves stability of the leg;
• gives a chance to preserve the joint and avoid rapid worsening.

After surgery, rehabilitation and gradual recovery are required to regain the ability to walk normally.
