CAMPAIGN DETAILS
Circumstances of the injury:
On November 18, 2024, my husband and I were in our yard when suddenly an Iskander missile struck. The blast wave swept through the yard. I was thrown to the ground and buried under debris. In that moment, I couldn’t feel my legs at all and was certain they had been torn off. Only when my husband began to lift me did I realize they were still there. Before this, we had already survived a Shahed drone attack, and I could never have imagined that another strike was about to follow.
Diagnosis:
Condition after blast injury (November 18, 2024): gunshot-related comminuted fracture of the right scapula with fragment displacement.
This means that as a result of the explosion or gunfire, the shoulder blade bone was shattered into several pieces, which shifted out of their normal position. Such an injury destabilizes the shoulder joint, limits arm movement, and requires surgical intervention to restore proper bone alignment and healing.
Clinical Decision:
Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the right scapula.
This means that during surgery, the fractured pieces of the right scapula will be surgically repositioned into their correct alignment (open reduction). To stabilize them, metal implants such as plates, screws, or rods will be used. This procedure allows the bone to heal properly, restores the shape and function of the shoulder joint, and provides stability throughout the recovery process.
