A severe pelvic injury changed his life.
Now there is a chance to walk normally again.
He survived the shelling and managed to pull himself out from under the debris. Today, his fight is to regain movement and live without constant pain.
Case summary
- Date of injury: June 13, 2022
- Type of injury: pelvic fractures and hip joint damage
- Complications: chronic pain and impaired walking
- What is needed: hip joint replacement
Circumstances of the injury
June 13, 2022, while at his position, he was injured during enemy artillery shelling.
As a result of the explosion, he was thrown into the air and trapped under the wooden structure of the trench. He did not lose consciousness, managed to get out on his own, and with the help of a fellow soldier reached shelter.
After that, he felt severe pain in the right side of his pelvis and was unable to breathe properly. The understanding of how serious the injury was came gradually, but the priority was to hold on and wait for help.
Diagnosis
Healed fractures of the pubic ramus and right ischial bone — the pelvic bones were broken and have fused, but with impaired normal function.
Post-traumatic right-sided coxarthrosis (stage III) — severe damage to the hip joint leading to its gradual destruction.
Pain syndrome — constant or recurring pain that intensifies with movement.
Impaired weight-bearing and walking function — inability to fully rely on the leg and difficulty moving.
In simple terms: the joint is significantly damaged, so every movement is painful, and normal walking becomes increasingly difficult.
- constant pain
- limited mobility
- reduced ability to bear weight on the leg
- difficulty walking
Without treatment, the condition will continue to worsen and further limit mobility.
What can help
Cementless total hip replacement of the right hip joint — a surgery in which the damaged joint is fully replaced with an artificial one.
In simple terms, this means:
- both the head of the femur and the joint socket are replaced
- an artificial joint made of medical-grade materials is implanted
- the implant is fixed without cement — the bone gradually grows into it
- this allows restoration of support and movement
The goal of the surgery is to reduce pain, restore the ability to walk, and improve quality of life.
After the procedure, rehabilitation and gradual return to weight-bearing are required.
Why support matters now
This injury has already had a major impact on his life. Without surgery, the pain and limited mobility will only worsen.
Timely treatment offers a chance to stop the joint’s destruction and restore the ability to move independently.
This is a chance to regain control over his body and live without constant pain.
