Campaign details

Circumstances of Injury:

Valerii’s story is a true testament to the unbreakable human spirit and extraordinary willpower in the face of overwhelming adversity.

While carrying out a combat mission, Valerii’s unit was ambushed. He was initially struck in the leg by shrapnel or a bullet, losing consciousness and suffering a concussion. Upon regaining consciousness, he provided first aid to himself and continued to defend his position. During evacuation, enemy drones dropped munitions, one of which struck his thigh near the initial wound. Despite excruciating pain and near-total loss of leg function, Valerii remained clear-headed and improvised a makeshift splint.

The ordeal escalated with artillery strikes that blew off his body armor, destroyed his radio, and left him without communication. With no external help possible, he crawled 3 kilometers over several days without food or water. On the fourth day, he reached a shelter, only to encounter 16 enemy combatants and was taken prisoner.

During his 36 hours in captivity, Valerii outwitted his captors, convincing them to let him go. Once free, he embarked again on the arduous journey back to friendly lines, without communication, sustenance, or resources. Against all odds, on May 6, Valerii finally reached safety, defying circumstances that seemed insurmountable.

Valerii’s story is not just about heroism; it’s a testament to courage, ingenuity, and the resilience of the human spirit in the darkest of moments.
