Circumstances of Injury:

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, Oleksii was executing a combat mission when he came under heavy tank fire. While moving between positions, he was targeted by an enemy tank. A piece of shrapnel caused a severe injury to his left leg. Initially, Oleksii tried to crawl to safety, hoping the damage was minor. However, upon seeing his leg twisted and the bone visibly broken, he realized the severity of his injury.

With incredible composure, Oleksii radioed for help, and his comrades quickly evacuated him to a stabilization point.

For Oleksii, this injury brought a renewed appreciation for life and his family, especially his newborn son. Every day, he draws strength from thoughts of his loved ones and the future he is fighting for.

Diagnosis:

• Isolated Gunshot Wound to the Left Thigh:
  • A focused injury caused by a projectile, affecting the thigh only, with no additional injuries.
• Comminuted Fracture of the Proximal Third of the Left Femur with Displacement:
  • The femur (thigh bone) is shattered into multiple fragments.
  • Displacement of bone fragments disrupts the anatomical alignment, complicating the healing process.

Location:

• Upper third of the femur, a critical area for weight-bearing and stability of the leg.

Clinical Solution:

Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) with Plate Osteosynthesis:

1. Procedure:
   • Surgical intervention to realign the broken bone fragments.
   • A specialized metal plate and screws are used to hold the bone securely in place.
2. Purpose:
   • Ensures anatomical alignment of the femur.
   • Provides stability to promote proper bone healing.
