Campaign details
Circumstances of Injury:
Dmytro’s journey brought him to the battlefield as early as 2014. Like many volunteers, he could not stand aside when danger loomed over his homeland. From the first days of aggression, he understood that it was his duty to protect his land, his family, and every Ukrainian.
On September 10, 2022, another challenging chapter was added to his life. During an enemy attack on his unit’s positions, Dmytro heard a distressing message over the radio: “We have a casualty.” Without hesitation, he rushed to help. Jumping into a trench to retrieve the wounded comrade, he felt a sharp crunch in his knees. However, he ignored the pain—his priority was saving others.
Diagnosis:
Injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the left knee joint.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a crucial stabilizer of the knee joint that prevents excessive movement of the tibia relative to the femur and stabilizes the joint during motion. Damage to the ACL can be caused by:
- Sudden twisting or rotational movements.
- Excessive physical stress or weight-bearing activities.
- Falls or direct impact to the knee.
Clinical Solution:
ACL Reconstruction Surgery.
ACL reconstruction is a surgical procedure involving the replacement of the damaged ligament with a graft, typically harvested from the patient’s own tendons (such as hamstring or patellar tendons) or made from synthetic materials. The goal of the surgery is to:
- Restore Stability: Ensures the knee joint functions properly during movement and prevents further instability.
- Regain Mobility: Helps restore full range of motion and strength to the affected leg.
- Prevent Complications: Reduces the risk of secondary injuries, such as meniscus tears or joint degeneration.
