Injury Circumstances:

On March 11, 2023, near Avdiivka, Serhii was defending his position during a combat mission. During a rotation, a 120-mm enemy mortar shell landed dangerously close. Despite being injured in the explosion, Serhii managed to reach a bunker on his own, where his comrades provided immediate first aid.

This incident was a challenging ordeal, but thanks to the quick response of his comrades, the bleeding was stopped, and Serhii’s condition was stabilized.

Consequences of explosive trauma:
Non-union of the right humeral bone with a false joint and bone tissue defect.

False Joint:

A pathological condition where a bone fracture fails to heal correctly, forming a mobile connection between the fragments instead of proper consolidation. In cases of explosive trauma, this is further complicated by a bone defect caused by the destruction or loss of bone tissue.

Complications:

• Functional impairments:
  • Decreased or lost mobility in the shoulder joint.
  • Inability to perform specific arm movements.
  • Pain and weakness in the affected limb.
• Mechanical instability:
  • Inability to bear weight or strain on the limb.
  • Persistent sensation of instability in the shoulder.
• Risks of complications:
  • Bone deformity.
  • Potential secondary damage to surrounding soft tissues, nerves, or blood vessels.
