Circumstances of the injury
During a combat mission, his unit encountered the enemy. In the course of the fight, he sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Immediately after being wounded, he had to act on his own: he crawled to a safer place and applied a tourniquet to himself. His fellow soldiers packed the wound and helped evacuate him.
