Campaign details
How he was injured:
On July 27, 2024, he suffered severe injuries: internal organ trauma, a collapsed left lung (pneumothorax), a shattered shoulder blade, burns on his left arm, and multiple shrapnel wounds.
He was wounded near Lyman, close to Kreminna, in an area the soldiers grimly call the “Forest of Wonders.”
During an enemy attack, he was hit directly by an anti-tank grenade. The explosion buried him under burning debris. His brothers-in-arms risked their lives to pull him out under fire.
He has been serving since the very first day of the full-scale invasion.
Diagnosis:
Healed fracture of the left shoulder blade with residual bone deformity.
Explanation:
The patient suffered a fracture of the left scapula (shoulder blade), which has since healed. However, during the healing process, the bone did not realign properly, resulting in a permanent deformity. This type of deformity can cause chronic pain, limit shoulder mobility, and interfere with normal arm function.
Clinical decision:
Corrective osteotomy of the left scapula with fixation using metal plates.
Explanation:
The patient underwent a complex surgical procedure involving two key steps:
– Corrective osteotomy: The surgeon intentionally re-broke the misshapen shoulder blade under controlled conditions to restore its proper anatomical alignment.
– Internal fixation with plates and screws (osteosynthesis): After the bone was repositioned, it was secured using metal plates and screws to ensure stability and proper healing.
Purpose of the surgery:
– To correct the bone deformity caused by improper healing of the original fracture
– To restore the natural shape and structure of the shoulder blade
– To reduce pain and improve shoulder function
– To prevent further complications or long-term movement limitations
