Circumstances of Injury:

On May 3, 2024, Mykola suffered severe injuries. While rotating positions with his comrades, he came under a mine-explosive attack. The explosion caused devastating injuries to his left leg and right arm.

This day remains etched in his memory not just because of the pain but also due to a newfound appreciation for life. Mykola shared, “After the injury, I realized even more how important my family is to me. Their support gives me the strength to keep fighting.” His loved ones have become his pillar of strength during this challenging time.

Diagnosis:

• Traumatic amputation of the left foot at the Chopart joint.
• Shrapnel injury to the right forearm with a comminuted fracture of the mid-third of the ulna and radius, with bone fragment displacement.

Traumatic Amputation at the Chopart Joint:

• High-energy injury resulting in the complete detachment of the foot from the lower leg.
• Damage to bones, ligaments, blood vessels, and nerves.
• Injury level (Chopart joint): located between the talus and calcaneus bones.

Shrapnel Injury to the Right Forearm:

• Penetrating damage to soft tissues and bones caused by shrapnel.
• Comminuted fracture with deformation of the mid-third of the ulna and radius.
• Displacement of bone fragments disrupts the anatomical structure of the forearm, causing pain and limited mobility.

• A surgical procedure to stabilize fractures of the ulna and radius using metal implants (plates, screws, or intramedullary rods).
