A leg injury sustained during combat.
Now — the fight for full recovery.
This is the story of a soldier who suffered a severe shrapnel injury to his leg. Despite initial treatment, the bone has not healed properly — and the next surgical stage is now essential to restore function.
- Date of injury: September 23, 2024
- Cause: mortar shelling (shrapnel injury)
- Main injury: fracture of the lower leg bone
- Complication: nonunion (the bone has not healed)
On September 23, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission, the unit moved into a new position. At that moment, a mortar attack began — a 120 mm shell exploded nearby.
As a result of the blast, the soldier sustained a shrapnel injury to his right leg.
Consequences of a blast injury: nonunion fracture of the tibia.
Planned surgical treatment:
metal osteosynthesis of the tibia using a plate and screws, combined with bone grafting.
- the bone will be aligned into the correct position;
- a metal structure will provide stability;
- bone grafting will help restore the missing or damaged tissue.
This is a necessary step to allow the bone to heal properly and restore the function of the leg.
