Campaign details
Circumstances of Injury:
On October 28, 2023, Mykola was stationed at his combat position when a grenade launcher attack began. Shrapnel injured his leg, shoulder, and arm, leaving him in critical condition. Despite the intense pain, Mykola remained conscious, and thanks to the swift assistance of his comrades, he survived.
Diagnosis:
- Shrapnel wound to the right lower leg (ВОСП) with bone tissue defect.
Details of the Injury:
- Shrapnel Wound (ВОСП):
- Caused by high-energy shrapnel, resulting in damage to soft tissues and bones, potentially affecting blood vessels and nerves.
- The open nature of the injury increases the risk of infection and complicates the healing process.
- Bone Tissue Defect:
- Loss of a portion of the bone structure due to the injury.
- The defect hinders natural bone regeneration and requires surgical intervention to restore integrity.
Clinical Solution:
Bone Synthesis with Autoplasty.
Surgical Approach:
- Bone Synthesis (Osteosynthesis):
- A surgical technique utilizing metal constructs such as plates, screws, or an intramedullary rod to stabilize bone fragments.
- Provides structural stability, ensuring proper alignment and optimal conditions for healing.
- Bone Autoplasty:
- Transplantation of bone tissue from another part of the patient’s body (commonly the iliac crest or fibula).
- This method is used to:
- Fill the Bone Defect: Replaces the missing bone tissue to restore structural continuity.
- Promote Bone Regeneration: Stimulates new bone growth and enhances the healing process.
- Ensure Compatibility: Autografts reduce the risk of rejection and improve integration into the existing bone.
