- Type of injury: shrapnel wound to the left lower leg
- Complications: comminuted fracture, bone loss, infection
- Current stage: requires surgical treatment
Circumstances of the Injury
The injury was sustained during a personnel rotation on February 26, 2024. The unit was just moving into position when a mortar attack began.
A piece of shrapnel struck his left leg. Together with a fellow soldier, he managed to reach a small crater, where first aid was immediately provided: a tourniquet was applied, the wound was packed, and secured with an Israeli bandage.
Despite the severity of the injury, there was hope until the very end that the leg could be saved.
Medical Diagnosis
Gunshot shrapnel wound to the left lower leg with a comminuted fracture of the distal third of both bones of the lower leg and a bone tissue defect. Chronic osteomyelitis of the left tibia in an active stage.
What this means
The bone in his leg is severely damaged: it is shattered into multiple fragments, and part of the bone tissue is missing. In addition, a bone infection has developed, which complicates healing and requires complex treatment.
Clinical Plan
Planned surgical treatment aimed at restoring the damaged section of the bone and controlling the infection.
