CAMPAIGN DETAILS
Circumstances of the injury:
He was injured while carrying out a combat mission. Despite the pain and the difficult conditions, he continued to act according to the situation and ensured the successful completion of the assigned mission.
Diagnosis:
Closed injury of the ACL, grade II osteoarthritis of the left knee joint.
A closed injury of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) means that one of the main stabilizing ligaments inside the knee is torn or severely overstretched. Because of this, the knee can “give out,” become painful, and lose stability.
Grade II osteoarthritis of the left knee indicates noticeable wear of the cartilage inside the joint. The cartilage becomes thinner, causing pain while walking, swelling, limited range of motion, and a characteristic grinding or crunching sensation.
Together, these conditions mean the knee is injured and partially unstable. The cartilage is wearing down faster than normal, leading to ongoing discomfort, difficulty with physical activity, and impaired, painful walking.
Clinical Decision:
ACL reconstruction with screw fixation.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a surgery in which the damaged or torn ligament is replaced with a new one. Surgeons take a graft—most often the patient’s own tendon—and place it where the original ligament used to be.
Screw fixation means that the new ligament is securely anchored inside the bone tunnels using special medical screws. This ensures that the graft stays firmly in place and can properly heal and integrate with the bone.
