Campaign details
Circumstances of Injury:
On July 3, 2024, during a combat operation to clear a settlement, an explosive trauma occurred from a 120 mm shell. Despite sustaining injuries, the soldier remained conscious, experiencing a concussion and shrapnel wounds to the face. The blast wave also caused trauma to the left hand.
Diagnosis:
Medial Meniscus Injury:
The medial meniscus is a critical component of the knee joint, responsible for cushioning, stability, and even distribution of weight. Damage to this structure can result from trauma, excessive strain, or degenerative changes, leading to pain, instability, and restricted movement.
Clinical Solution:
Knee Arthroscopy:
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat knee joint injuries with the aid of a specialized instrument called an arthroscope.
Steps of the Procedure:
- Partial Meniscectomy:
- Removal of the damaged portions of the meniscus to alleviate pain and restore joint function.
- Meniscus Repair:
- Suturing the torn sections of the meniscus to facilitate healing and preserve joint integrity (if repairable).
- Debridement:
- Cleaning the joint of cartilage fragments or inflammatory elements that may cause further discomfort or limit movement.
- Ligament Restoration (if needed):
- Addressing any associated ligament damage to ensure knee stability and full functional recovery.
