Campaign details
Circumstances of the Injury:
On October 23, 2023, Mykola was on duty at his combat position when a 120-mm mortar shell struck their trench. During the bombardment, shrapnel hit his left leg, causing severe injuries. Initially, adrenaline masked the pain, and Mykola didn’t immediately realize the extent of his injuries. It was only later that the gravity of his condition became clear.
This life-altering event gave Mykola a new appreciation for every moment and the loved ones eagerly awaiting his safe return.
Diagnosis:
Blast injury, gunshot fracture of the proximal tibia.
This indicates that the upper section of Mykola’s tibia (the main bone of the lower leg) was fractured due to the explosion or gunshot. Such an injury often involves damage to the surrounding soft tissues and requires surgical intervention to repair the bone and stabilize the limb.
Clinical Plan:
Bone defect reconstruction using bioglass.
This advanced procedure involves filling and restoring the damaged section of the bone with a specialized material called bioglass. This material offers multiple benefits:
- Bone tissue regeneration: Bioglass integrates seamlessly with existing bone, providing a scaffold for new tissue growth.
- Healing stimulation: It promotes natural bone healing and accelerates recovery.
- Infection prevention: Its antiseptic properties reduce the risk of complications.
