Campaign details
Circumstances of the Injury:
Yurii volunteered to defend Ukraine from the very first days of the full-scale invasion. On May 20, 2024, during an intense battle, he and his comrades were repelling an enemy assault. Thanks to their courage, the attack was thwarted. However, immediately afterward, the enemy launched a mortar barrage and deployed a swarm of kamikaze drones.
Yurii sustained multiple injuries and was unable to move on his own. Under heavy fire, his comrades dragged him to a safer location and provided first aid.
Diagnosis:
Gunshot comminuted fracture of both bones of the right lower leg.
This severe injury, caused by a gunshot projectile, led to the destruction of the tibia and fibula, resulting in multiple bone fragments. A comminuted fracture of both bones of the lower leg presents significant challenges for treatment and healing, requiring advanced surgical intervention.
Clinical Plan:
Osteosynthesis of the tibia using an external fixation device.
Osteosynthesis with an external fixation device is a surgical technique that stabilizes bone fragments using a framework attached externally. This method avoids the need for implanted plates or rods, reducing the risk of infection, particularly in cases of open fractures or extensive trauma.
