Circumstances of the injury:

While carrying out his duty to defend Ukraine, Volodymyr sustained an injury after returning from a combat position. The damage was caused by intense physical strain and demanding conditions during his service. Despite the pain and challenges, Volodymyr continued to serve with remarkable strength and resilience.

Diagnosis:

Injury to the medial meniscus (MM) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the left knee joint.

The medial meniscus is a piece of cartilage inside the knee that acts as a cushion or “shock absorber” between the bones. Damage to it causes pain, swelling, and sometimes a feeling that the knee is “locking up.”

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the main ligaments that stabilizes the knee and prevents the shinbone from moving forward. When it’s injured, the knee can feel unstable or as if it’s “giving out” during movement.

Clinical decision:

Arthroscopy of the left knee joint, ACL reconstruction, and anchor fixation.

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgery performed through small incisions. A tiny camera (arthroscope) and specialized instruments are inserted into the knee, allowing the surgeon to operate without large cuts.

ACL reconstruction involves restoring the torn anterior cruciate ligament using the patient’s own tissue (an autograft). This helps bring back stability and proper function to the knee.

Anchor fixation is a method of securing the new ligament with small metal or biopolymer anchors that hold the tissue firmly in place while it heals and integrates with the bone.
