Severe combat injury during mission execution

This is a story of a battle where a few seconds changed everything. After the enemy strike on the combat vehicle, the serviceman sustained severe injuries, but managed to gather strength for self-aid and transmission of evacuation information.

17.07.2023 while covering the unit on an anti-aircraft missile system targeting an enemy reconnaissance UAV, after engaging the target the enemy struck the combat vehicle with a loitering munition.

At the moment of the explosion, the serviceman was inside an MT-LB. The blast wave and shrapnel threw him out of the vehicle. For several seconds he was disoriented, with impaired vision and hearing.

Regaining consciousness, he moved toward cover, understanding the severity of his condition. Despite his injuries, he independently applied tourniquets and stabilized himself until help arrived.

Later, he transmitted information via radio. Evacuation was organized after the unit arrived.

The main stage of treatment is surgical intervention — removal of the fixation device.
