Campaign details
Circumstances of the Injury:
During an assault maneuver, Yuliia and her comrades were deploying from a Bradley armored vehicle. During the exit, she struck the top hatch, resulting in a significant injury.
Diagnosis:
Post-traumatic injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL):
The ACL is a vital structure for knee stability. Damage to this ligament leads to instability, difficulty walking, and potential secondary injuries to other parts of the knee.
Injuries to the menisci:
- Medial meniscus: Damage to the body and posterior horn causes pain and restricts movement.
- Lateral meniscus: Injury to the posterior horn reduces shock absorption and increases stress on other joint structures.
Moderate synovitis:
Inflammation of the synovial membrane with fluid accumulation in the joint, causing swelling, limited mobility, and pain.
Persistent pain syndrome:
Chronic pain that impacts quality of life, reduces physical activity, and leads to muscle weakness.
Impaired weight-bearing and gait function:
Knee instability and pain make it difficult to stand, walk, or perform daily activities.
Clinical Plan:
Arthroscopic Meniscectomy and ACL Reconstruction for the Right Knee.
- Arthroscopic Meniscectomy:
- A minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove the damaged portions of the medial and lateral menisci.
- Goals:
- Reduce pain.
- Restore joint mobility.
- Prevent further joint damage.
- ACL Reconstruction:
- Restoring the ligament’s integrity using an autograft (e.g., the patient’s tendon) or synthetic material.
- Goals:
- Stabilize the knee.
- Improve weight-bearing ability.
- Prevent progressive instability.
