Circumstances of the Injury:
Anatolii was stationed on a combat position when an intense firefight broke out. During the exchange of fire, he sustained a gunshot wound to his hand but continued to fulfill his duty under dangerous conditions. His courage and resilience deserve immense respect and support.
Diagnosis:
Blast injury and gunshot fracture of the neck of the second metacarpal bone of the right hand with fragment displacement.
This injury involves:
- A fracture in the neck of the second metacarpal bone, located near the joint responsible for finger mobility.
- Displacement of bone fragments, making natural healing difficult without intervention.
Complications:
- Impaired mobility of the hand and fingers.
- Severe pain syndrome.
- Potential damage to soft tissues, blood vessels, and nerves due to the gunshot nature of the injury.
- High risk of infection in the wound.
Clinical Plan:
Open Reduction and Metal Osteosynthesis with an LCP Mini-Plate and Screws.
- Open Reduction:
- A surgical procedure where the fracture site is opened, and bone fragments are manually realigned into their correct anatomical position.
- Metal Osteosynthesis (MOS) with an LCP Mini-Plate and Screws:
- The fractured bone fragments are secured with a Locking Compression Plate (LCP) and screws, which provide:
- Stable Fixation: Prevents movement of the fragments during healing.
- Accelerated Bone Healing: Ensures proper alignment for natural bone regeneration.
- Minimized Tissue Damage: The LCP system reduces trauma to surrounding tissues, aiding quicker recovery.
