Campaign details
Circumstances of the Injury:
On May 29, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission, Oleksandr was on duty when the enemy dropped a munition. The explosion caused severe injuries: his arm was shattered in multiple places by shrapnel. In a state of shock, Oleksandr initially didn’t feel the pain and tried to apply a tourniquet himself, but the injuries were too severe. His comrades quickly dragged him into a shelter, administered first aid, and managed to stop the bleeding.
Diagnosis:
Gunshot and explosive injuries to the left upper limb, including:
- Gunshot fracture of the upper third of the humerus (shoulder bone).
- Gunshot fractures of the lower third of both the radius and ulna (forearm bones).
Key Details of the Injuries:
- Humerus Fracture (Upper Third):
- Complete disruption of the shoulder bone’s integrity.
- Possible complications involving nearby nerves and blood vessels in the shoulder area.
- Forearm Fractures (Lower Third):
- Both the radius and ulna, essential for forearm mobility and stability, are severely damaged.
- Fragment displacement could hinder hand and arm function significantly.
Clinical Plan:
Metal Osteosynthesis (MOS) of the Humerus (PHILOS Long) and Forearm Bones:
- MOS of the Humerus:
- A specialized PHILOS Long Plate will be used to stabilize the fracture in the upper third of the humerus.
- This system ensures:
- Strong and precise fixation to maintain anatomical alignment.
- Accelerated healing while minimizing complications.
- MOS of the Radius and Ulna:
- The fractures in both forearm bones will be secured with plates and screws.
- This procedure will restore the structural integrity of the radius and ulna, enabling:
- Normal wrist and forearm movement.
- Improved stability and function of the entire limb.
