Campaign details
Circumstances of the Injury:
“When I looked at my hands, all I could see was flesh and bone. I wasn’t afraid of losing them—I just wanted to survive and help my comrades,” Ivan recalls.
May 11, 2024, is a day Ivan will never forget. During a combat mission, he sustained severe injuries that could have been fatal. While engaged in close combat, enemy drones began dropping explosives, and the enemy advanced on their position. Ivan and his comrades retreated, seeking cover. Spotting a dugout, Ivan decided to enter first, but a burst of automatic fire erupted from inside. Four bullets hit him.
Ivan stumbled back, collapsing onto the ground. Despite the intense pain and critical injuries, he didn’t break. Even as his comrades fought back, Ivan applied tourniquets to both arms to stop the bleeding and continued to command the battle. He knew every second mattered.
Diagnosis:
Gunshot fractures:
- Middle third of the left humerus:
- Fracture with bone displacement and significant loss of bone tissue, stabilized temporarily with an external fixation device (AZF).
- Middle third of the left radius:
- Fracture with bone displacement and a defect in bone tissue.
These injuries are severe, involving:
- Fractures of two major bones (humerus and radius) with improper alignment.
- Loss of bone tissue from the gunshot trauma.
- Temporary stabilization of the humerus using an external fixation device (AZF) until further treatment.
Clinical Plan:
- Left Humerus:
- Biological Osteosynthesis (BIOS):
- A surgical technique that encourages natural bone healing while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. Bone fragments are aligned and fixed to preserve blood supply and promote regeneration.
- Bone Alloplasty:
- The lost bone tissue will be replaced with donor bone material to fill the defect and restore the bone’s integrity.
- Biological Osteosynthesis (BIOS):
- Left Radius:
- Metal Osteosynthesis (MOS):
- The fracture will be stabilized using metal plates and screws, ensuring proper alignment and healing.
- Bone Alloplasty:
- Donor bone will be used to replace the missing segment, ensuring complete restoration of the bone’s structure.
- Metal Osteosynthesis (MOS):
