CAMPAIGN DETAILS
Circumstances of the injury
On February 17, 2025, while carrying out a combat mission, I was part of a unit moving toward a designated sector to locate friendly infantry units who were believed to be stranded in the gray zone. Our objective was to reach their position, clear the area if needed, and hold it for three to five days until reinforcements arrived or further orders were received.
During the movement, our group came under attack from enemy FPV drones. The explosion caused a severe injury to my right leg, making it impossible for me to continue with the team. Despite the pain, I acted on my own — I improvised a splint using AK-74 magazines, securing them with a bandage.
That night, I stayed on the position, remaining combat-ready despite my wound. By morning, leaning on a stick, I managed to reach the evacuation point on my own.
Diagnosis
Post-traumatic injury of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the right knee. Pain syndrome. Impaired function of the right lower limb.
A post-traumatic ACL injury means a tear or severe stretching of the main ligament inside the knee that keeps the joint stable after trauma, such as a direct blow or sudden twisting movement.
The pain syndrome causes constant pain in the knee area, especially during movement or physical activity.
Because of this injury, the right leg has lost stability, making it difficult to walk, stand, or perform regular daily or physical tasks.
Clinical Decision
Arthroscopic meniscectomy and reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the right knee.
An arthroscopic meniscectomy is a minimally invasive surgery performed through small incisions in the knee. Using a tiny camera (arthroscope) and special instruments, surgeons remove the damaged portion of the meniscus — the cartilage that acts as a shock absorber between the bones. This procedure helps relieve pain and restore mobility.
The reconstruction of the ACL involves repairing or partially suturing the torn ligament that stabilizes the knee and prevents it from “giving out” during movement. Restoring the integrity of this ligament is essential for proper joint function and long-term recovery.
