Campaign details

Circumstances of Injury:

On August 23, 2023, Volodymyr and his comrades were stationed at a combat position when a heavy mortar shelling began. Tragically, one of his comrades was killed in action. Volodymyr was ordered to evacuate the body from the battlefield. In the darkness, summoning all his strength, they placed the body on a stretcher and began the evacuation.

During this operation, the enemy resumed the shelling, and a mortar exploded just two meters away. The blast wave threw Volodymyr several meters away, causing him to fall into a pit, where he sustained severe injuries.

Diagnosis:

  • Post-mine-blast trauma (August 23, 2024): Non-consolidated gunshot fracture of the upper third of the left forearm with a bone tissue defect, stabilized.       Details of the Injury:

    Mine-Blast Trauma (MBT):

    • A complex injury involving bones, soft tissues, blood vessels, and nerves caused by an explosive wave or fragments.

    Non-Consolidated Fracture:

    • A bone fracture that has not healed within the expected timeframe.
    • Results in instability of the affected area and impaired limb function.

    Bone Tissue Defect:

    • Loss of part of the bone structure, complicating the healing process.
    • Requires reconstruction using grafts or synthetic materials.

    Fracture Stabilization:

    • External fixation devices (EFDs) or other methods used to stabilize the fragments and promote healing.

Clinical Solution:

Bone-Plastic Osteosynthesis with Bone Defect Filling Using Bioglass

  • Bone-Plastic Osteosynthesis:
    • A surgical method for treating fractures involving the use of grafts or synthetic materials (e.g., bioglass) to restore bone continuity.
    • Aimed at achieving anatomical bone alignment and creating optimal conditions for regeneration.
  • Bioglass for Bone Defect Filling:
    • A bioactive material used to fill bone defects.
    • Stimulates natural bone regeneration and integrates with the surrounding tissue.
    • Provides mechanical support and reduces the risk of infection.
