Injury from an FPV drone strike. Ahead — bone reconstruction and restoring leg function
After the vehicle was hit while leaving a position, he sustained a complex fracture of the lower leg. The bone was aligned and stabilized, but an important next step remains — restoring the lost bone tissue.
Case Summary
- Date of injury: April 10, 2025
- Cause: vehicle struck by an FPV drone
- Injury: gunshot fracture of the right lower leg with bone loss
- Condition: post-surgery, bone is healing, leg function remains limited
- Next step: bone tissue reconstruction
Circumstances of the Injury
Serving his duty and understanding the risks of war were conscious choices.
On April 10, 2025, while leaving a position, the vehicle was struck by an enemy FPV drone. The impact was sudden and powerful, but even then he managed to get out of the vehicle on his own.
Due to the severity of the injuries, he was no longer able to provide first aid to himself. Fellow soldiers reacted instantly: they moved him to a safer place and stabilized his condition.
In that moment, the most important thing was not to panic, to stay conscious, and to hold on until help arrived.
There was an inner acceptance of the situation and an understanding that this is part of war.
Medical Diagnosis
Post-surgical condition (June 10, 2025): open reduction and internal fixation of the right tibia using an intramedullary locking nail, with the bone defect temporarily filled with a cement spacer following a gunshot fracture (April 10, 2025).
What this means
The bone in his leg was successfully realigned and stabilized with a metal rod placed inside it. The damaged part of the bone was temporarily replaced with a special material to preserve its shape and prepare the leg for further reconstruction.
The bone is now healing, but the function of the leg has not yet been fully restored — further treatment and rehabilitation are still needed.
Clinical Plan
Planned closure of the bone defect using cancellous bone graft granules.
What this means
During the procedure, the damaged area of the bone will be filled with a specialized material that has a structure similar to natural bone.
This is needed to:
- restore the integrity of the bone
- strengthen the damaged area
- support proper bone healing
Over time, this material is gradually replaced by the patient’s own bone tissue.
Why Support Is Needed
Recovery after injuries like this is a long, multi-stage process. The next surgery is critical — it will determine how well the bone heals and whether full function of the leg can be restored.
Support today is a real contribution toward his recovery and a chance to return to a full life and mobility without limitations.
